Tristen Johnson Senior Recital

Tristen is a cellist from Raleigh who has taken part in Sphinx Performance Academies at the Cleveland Institute of Music and Curtis Institute of Music.

As a member of the National Youth Orchestra-USA’s 2021 residency, and 2022 European tour, he played under the batons of Daniel Harding and Carlos Miguel Prieto. Tristen has earned first prizes in the North Carolina Symphony Concerto Competition and the Triangle Youth Philharmonic Concerto Competition. His piano duo is generously sponsored by the North Carolina Chamber Music Institute and he is the assistant coach for United Strings of Color, Inc. Tristen studies with North Carolina Symphony cellist, Nathaniel Yaffe, and has also received private instruction from Camden Shaw, cellist of the Dover Quartet. He has appeared in masterclasses with Peter Wiley, of the Curtis Institute of Music, and Astrid Schween, of the Juilliard School He plays an instrument by Kelvin W.M. Scott made in 2022.
